2D Paper Lesson: Tinfoil Abstract Art

Description: For this activity, we drew abstract art on a sheet of paper with our pencil. We then traced it over with sharpie markers. Once everything was traced out, we colored tinfoil with Crayola markers. After this was done, we used spray bottles filled with water to make the tinfoil and markers wet. We then set our abstract art on the wet tinfoil and let the marker bleed into the abstract art to make it colorful. On the project on the left I used red, yellow, and orange so the colors would bleed to a pretty sunset look. On the right, I used blue and purple on the outsides and yellow and green on the inside to make the picture go from a dark to light color.
Extension Activity: For an extension activity, I would have students use math to cut out their sheets of paper to a certain inch. Then I would have them measure the size of tinfoil they need with their rulers as well. This allows students to practice their dimensions as they are creating their abstract art project.
