Clay Lesson: Clay Monsters

Description : This activity was making clay monsters. First we kneaded the clay together to be able to make it into a ball. Next, we used our fingers to create a big hole for the mouth of the monster. We then used some extra clay and use the slip and score technique to stick the eyes, teeth, and horns. We then used additivities and subtractive techniques. I subtracted by carving the clay with some lines and to make an eye on the eyeball. I added by adding the teeth, eyes, and horns. This project was meant to be painted with colors but I was gone in class the day we did this! Extension Activity : For an extension activity, I would have students make another piece of clay and implement a social studies lesson. I would teach students about Native American culture and have them create some artifacts that they have learned about and then paint it.
